Air Fryer Conversion Calculator

Convert any oven recipe to air fryer time and temperature in seconds — the standard rule is 25°F lower and 20% less time, plus a 30-food database with model-specific tips.

    How the conversion works

The converter applies one fixed rule to the oven setting you type in. It does not guess from the food name.

    1. Temperature: air fryer °F = oven °F − 25. If you enter Celsius, the oven temperature is first converted to Fahrenheit (°F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32), reduced by 25°F, and shown in Celsius again (°C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9). A 25°F step is about 14°C.
    2. Time: air fryer minutes = oven minutes × 0.8, rounded to the nearest minute.
    3. First check: check-at minutes = air fryer minutes × 0.8, rounded. This is the time to open the basket and test doneness, because small baskets and thin foods often finish early.

Why the rule works: an air fryer is a small convection oven. The fan moves hot air across the food, which removes the cool, moist layer of air at the surface. Heat reaches the food faster, so the same result needs a lower setting and less time. Convection-oven guidance from appliance makers uses the same 25°F reduction.

    Worked examples

    Example 1, a sheet-pan recipe at 400°F for 25 minutes. Temperature: 400 − 25 = 375°F. Time: 25 × 0.8 = 20 minutes. First check: 20 × 0.8 = 16 minutes. Set the air fryer to 375°F for 20 minutes and look at the food at 16 minutes.

Example 2, chicken wings at 400°F for 40 minutes (the preset in the food list above). Temperature: 375°F. Time: 40 × 0.8 = 32 minutes. First check: 32 × 0.8 = 25.6, so 26 minutes. Wings are done when the thickest one reads 165°F (74°C) on a thermometer, not when the timer ends.

    Example 3, a European recipe at 200°C for 30 minutes. 200°C is 392°F. 392 − 25 = 367°F, which is 186°C. Time: 30 × 0.8 = 24 minutes, first check at 19 minutes. Most air fryers step in 5° or 10° increments, so set 185°C.

When to change the result by hand. Thin foods such as fries, fish fillets and vegetables often finish earlier than the 20% rule. Cakes, muffins and cookies brown fast on top in a small basket, so bake them 5°F to 10°F lower than the result and check early. Do not fill the basket more than one layer deep: a full basket blocks the airflow, and then the oven time is closer to correct.
